Lotro – the best MMO of the Year by PC Gamer!

Today PC Gamer released the list of the US's Games of the Year Awards. The best MMO of the Year award has been given to The Lord of the Rings Online. Congratulations!

When it came to keeping us entertained all year long with small updates, plus throwing us the occasional party with huge loads of free content, LotRO treated its fans the best. Two new Epic Books’ worth of quests alongside the franchise’s memorable characters and two new regions were added; character creation and starter regions were completely revamped, in-game events were expanded and UI elements were improved—and then the game went free-to-play in September.

Yule Festival 2010 Theatre Event in Winter-home

Among many activities available during this Yule Festival there is a very special little event that is among the most unique things I have ever seen in any MMORPG. G.L.O.B.E. , Green Lilly Orators, Bards and Entertainers, are an acting company of Hobbits that have decided to present their famous production of "The Curious Disappearance of Mad Baggins" to the Winter-home visitors. Every ten minutes or so there is a show happening inside the Theatre building and you can actually participate as one of the actors. The show will not start if there are not at least three players present in the theatre that are not AFK. If there are more people present, three will be chosen randomly as actors.

Finally some interesting news for Lotro EU players

Today, Codemasters released several news including the most important news about the latest patch.

Patch 1 Release Notes

  • The Steed of Night was not displaying the correct item name. This has been addressed. It will now correctly display as “Steed of Night.”
  • Terrible things (such as skills getting stuck in the queued state, and being unable to use the key to log out) no longer happen after you try to use a helpful skill on an inanimate object.
  • There's now a tutorial hint shown when Skirmish Marks and Anniversary Tokens are transferred into the Barter Wallet.
  • Items that increase the daily Tasks limit now more clearly state their use restrictions.
  • NPCs in the Volume 2, Book 5, Chapter 5 instances were randomly scaling, making it difficult to complete the instances. We’ve spoken to those NPCs and explained to them that, while their enthusiasm is appreciated, we’d much rather have appropriate level NPCs in those instances.
  • Resolved an issue where the “Jailbreak” quest in Archet would fail if players ran too far ahead.
  • We have added a new mount to the Kindred barterer for the Malledhrim (Mirkwood Offensive). The cost for the mount is the same as the previous Mirkwood mount.
  • Resolved an issue where players attempting to purchase Destiny Perks from the LOTRO Store were not being directed to the correct page.
  • Resolved a sound issue during Skorgim's Resurrection.
  • Players should now receive the correct faction reputation for quests in the Mounshaws.

Additional news are: Double Bonus Points, Win 100,000 Points

2010 Yule Festival Frostbluff Quests Guide

Quests in Frostbluff's Winter-home are your main source of Frostbluff Coins, which you exchange for Yule Festival rewards (OK, you exchange the coins for tokens, which you exchange for rewards, but you get my point). Some of the quests can be done only once per day, but some are repeatable and can quickly accumulate the needed number of coins for that perfect house decoration. The quests usually reward 4 Frostbluff Coins with the exception of the eating contest which can reward you up to 13 coins if you manage to finish it whole. There is one quest that you spend 10 coins on, but, as you will see, you get a lot of good karma for it :).

Lotro Yule Festival 2010 – Introduction

It is the time of the year to be festive and celebrate and reflect on all the things that happened in the year behind us and make wishes and hope for great things in the year ahead. Lord of the Rings Online celebrates the year's end in the form of a Yule Festival that runs from December 14th to January 11. 2010. There are several very fun events available this year with the crown being a completely new and festival dedicated area called Frostbluff (or Winter-home as some call it). There will be decisions to be made on whether to support the rich or the poor, but lets leave that to our guides to explain.

The Festival begins with the quest An Invitation to the Festival that you start with an item you receive in the mail. You learn that you can talk to Festival Stable-masters in West Bree, Michel Delving, Throin’s Hall and Celondim (they are next to regular stable masters) and they will take you to a new land, Frostbluff. When you arrive to Winter-home you should get the introductory quest The Yule Celebration of Winter-home and you need to complete this quest in order to participate in the available winter festivities of Frostbluff (and unlock the other available quests). For each of the activities you participate in and quests you finish you will be getting Frostbluff coins that you can exchange for cosmetic rewards and house decorations.

Here's a comprehensive list of things to care about during this year's Yule Festival:

  • Frostbluff Quests
  • Frostbluff Theatre and Snowfight Events
  • Breeland, Thorin’s Hall, Duillond and Shire quests
  • Rewards
  • Lotro Life will try and provide you with information with all of the available activities and we'll be updating this post as well as creating separate pages for special activities as we gather all the information. In the meantime check out our gallery of the Yule Festival:

New 2010 Lotro Yule Festival

Today Lauren 'Budgeford' Salk has released new developer diary about upcoming Yule Festival which will give you a chance to choose your own experience and define the type of role your character is playing. This year, Yule Festival will be starting on December 14th.

This festival looks different, feels different, and is different. It is not the usual event-in-a-box that we have been making again and again since my first festival, in which we introduced the Hedge Maze. This one is bigger, more immersive, and doesn’t just layer more content on top of the existing festival areas. It features a number of quests, a story, a moral choice at the end, and several mini-games all contained in a new wintry region.

So what we can expect to see in Winter-home:

Free Lotro Turbine points – How to collect them easily

When Turbine announced that the Lone-lands quest pack is free to all players, Lotro players who spent Turbine points on LL were very disappointed. So, we have decided to make a small guide and help them to reclaim some Turbine points in the way that they were maybe not aware of.

  1. When you start the Turbine Launcher unchecked the option "Enter last played world "
  2. Create a new character on any server
  3. On the Panel - Select a Race choose - MAN
  4. Checked the box to skip new user tutorial
  5. Go to Hunters Lodge location (you can find it on the map - M button)
  6. Take the quest "A little extra never hurts" from the NPC Jon Brackenbrook (inside the Hunters Lodge)
  7. Finish the quest and as a reward you will get 10 Turbine Points
  8. Decline the next quest
  9. You need less than 5 minutes to do these steps.

You can repeat these steps on every server, but you can take and complete this quest only once on each server. Turbine points are connected to your account not to the character.

If you have any other Tip or Trick please let us know.

Additional tips:

  1. How to collect Turbine points in Bree Land
  2. How to collect Turbine points in Ered Luin
  3. Hidden Boar Slayer deed: you have to kill a boar in 7 zones for 50 TP, works on every character - Sui Generis
  4. Subscribe for one month. While this may not seem logical for a F2P player, it has tones of advantages. First, you get 500TP back. After that, you will have all your traits, bags, virtues unlocked. Also, you can learn the riding skill for free, no need to spend TP on that either. Go to every zone in Eregion and kill at least one mob that gives a new deed. After the VIP ends, you can still finish those deeds and get lots of TP for them. On your own time. VIP also removes the gold gap. You will save about 3000 TP on each character this way, so get it when you have a few alts. After VIP ends, you will keep these advantages. - Sui Generis
